In memoriam Brother Franziskus Monissen CFA

Brother Franziskus Monissen CFA passed away on 31 August 2017 at the age of 54. Born on 10 May 1963 as Jacob Monissen, he joined the Alexian Brothers in Neuss at when he has 17 years old.

Initially, he worked in the closed psychiatric wards of the St. Alexius hospital. Subsequently, he trained as a commercial manager.

After making his Perpetual Profession on 21 September 1986, Brother Franziskus became the manager of a nursing home in Siegburg where he worked for eight years. After returning to the monastery in Neuss, he joined up with other brothers to establish a soup kitchen where homeless people and others in need could get food and clothing.

Brother Franziskus also got involved in the work of the provincial council and began to study theology. In November 2001 he was ordained deacon and served as a pastoral care worker in a group of parishes in the district of Erft, a role that gave him great satisfaction.

We remember Brother Franziskus with gratitude. He will remain in our thoughts and prayers.
